Sibley Man Faces Felony Drug Charge After Traffic Stop

Hartley, Iowa — A Sibley man faces felony drug charges after a traffic stop near Hartley recently.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office at the Clerk of Court’s office, 51-year-old Gary McConnell of Sibley was stopped in the early hours on Highway 18.

The deputy reports that McConnell was stopped for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the deputy’s K-9 gave a positive alert on the vehicle. Approximately four grams of methamphetamine were located inside the vehicle.

According to the document, McConnell has been arrested on three previous occasions on drug charges, once in Clay County and twice in Lyon County. That made this offense a class D felony. If convicted of a class D felony, McConnell could serve up to five years in prison plus fines, surcharges, and court costs.

Records filed with the Clerk of Court’s office indicate he was arrested and jailed. They tell us he posted bond and was released four days later.
