Sioux City Woman Faces Felony OWI Charge After Hawarden Arrest

Hawarden, Iowa — A Sioux City woman has been arrested on felony OWI charges in Hawarden.

A criminal complaint filed in Sioux County alleges that 32-year-old Nicole Blackmore was operating a vehicle while intoxicated and under a barred license. She was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement, the arresting Hawarden Police officer says a report was received regarding an intoxicated driver headed toward Casey’s in Hawarden. The officer says he located the vehicle in question in the Coilcraft parking lot. He says Blackmore failed the initial sobriety test and refused to take any others, citing a medical condition. Her blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.345, which, if accurate, is over four times the legal limit of 0.08.

Blackmore was charged with operating while under the influence, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while barred.

She faces a preliminary hearing on January 27th.

At last report, Blackmore remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $5000 cash or surety bond.
