Sioux Falls Man Facing Burglary Theft Charges In Connection With Several Vehicle Break-Ins

Larchwood, Iowa — A South Dakota man has been arrested on burglary and theft charges after incidents near Larchwood and Inwood.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, 41-year-old Steven Janssen of Sioux Falls is accused of breaking into several vehicles and stealing items. He was arrested on a warrant on Tuesday.

In his statement, the agent states that on Saturday, July 1st, over a period of two hours, Janssen and two others broke into several vehicles, five of which were located in Inwood, and two located at Grand Falls Casino near Larchwood. The agent says once they were inside, they stole property from each vehicle. According to the DCI agent, the total value of all items taken from all vehicles was between $1500 and $10,000.

Janssen was charged with second degree theft, a class D felony, and seven misdemeanor counts of third degree burglary. If convicted of the felony, Janssen could face up to five years in prison.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on Friday, July 28th.

At last report, Janssen remained in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids, without bond.
