Pair From Sioux City Faces Several Felony Drug Counts After Sheldon Arrest

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sioux City man has been arrested on several counts, including drug and theft charges after a traffic stop in Sheldon.

According to criminal complaints filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 27-year-old Jakob Saul-Jaminet of Sioux City is accused of the possession of drugs and driving a stolen vehicle. He was arrested last week.

Sheldon Police officers tell us in their statements that Saul-Jaminet was stopped for dark windows. An officer says Saul-Jaminet showed very nervous behavior and had bloodshot watery eyes and dilated pupils. The officer says Saul-Jaminet was also very sporadic with his behavior going from super happy to super upset. Plus, the officer says a needle mark was also noticed on his arm. His driver’s license was found to be suspended and the officer says Saul-Jaminet also didn’t have high-risk insurance. He was placed under arrest. The officer says that while he was talking with the passenger, Sheldon Police k-9 Balin indicated to the presence of narcotics in the car. He says the passenger surrendered a meth pipe with meth and gave the officer a bag with 23 1/2 grams of meth and another with 5 1/2 grams. He says there were also open containers in the vehicle.

Later, Saul-Jaminet is accused of punching an officer in the side when the officer attempted to take Saul-Jaminet’s phone.

Saul-Jaminet was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a class B felony; first degree theft, a class C felony; failure to affix a drug tax stamp and third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance, both class D felonies, as well as misdemeanor charges of assaulting a peace officer and operating under the influence. If convicted, Saul-Jaminet could face several years in prison, as class B felonies are punishable by up to 25 years in prison, class C felonies are punishable by up to 10 years, and class D felonies, five years.

A preliminary appearance had been scheduled for this Friday, but that has been waived, according to court documents. At last report, he remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.

Meanwhile, the passenger also faces several charges. Officers tell us that 26-year-old Shirley Arias-Mujo of Sioux City faces charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a class B felony; failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and open container of alcohol as a passenger.

Court records say her preliminary hearing is still scheduled for Friday. At last report, she too remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
