Harris, Iowa — A skid loader was likely totaled in a fire on Monday, April 29, 2024, near Harris.
According to Harris Firefighter Greg Vellema, at about 11:00 a.m., the Harris Fire Department was called to the report of a skid loader fire at 1727 White Avenue, a little more than three miles south of the west side of Harris.
Firefighter Vellema says the fire department saw the Case skid loader with flames coming from the engine bay as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.
Vellema says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Ocheyedan Fire Department.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but Vellema says it started in the engine bay. He says they were glad they got there when they did as the skid loader was near a hay storage shed, so the fire could have been much worse.
Vellema reports that the skid loader was probably totaled.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for between a half an hour and 45 minutes.
