Sibley, Iowa — A Lennox, South Dakota man was taken to a hospital after an accident near Sibley on Friday morning.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 9:20 a.m., 76-year-old Frank Zavorka of Lennox, SD was driving a 2000 Chevy Express van registered to SAE Warehouse, Incorporated of Sioux Falls, southbound on Redwood Avenue. They say 68-year-old Donald Frantz of Rock Rapids was driving a 2013 Volvo Semi registered to Pete Klein Trucking of Rock Rapids westbound on Highway 9.
The van driven by Zavorka slid through the stop sign and Frantz’s vehicle struck it as it entered the intersection. The van then entered the north ditch and the semi came to a stop on Highway 9.
The Sibley Ambulance took Zavorka to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley. His injuries were described as “incapacitating.” Frantz was not injured.
The sheriff’s office says the van received about $5,000 in damages and the semi received about $15,000 in damage.
Officers cited Zavorka on a charge of Failure to Obey a Stop Sign. The sheriff’s office says the Iowa State Patrol, the Sibley and Ocheyedan fire departments, and the Ocheyedan Ambulance Squad also assisted at the scene.
