Sutherland Man Arrested For Multiple Drug-Related Felonies

Sutherland, Iowa — A Sutherland man faces a stack of felony narcotics-related charges following an incident at his home Wednesday afternoon.

According to court documents, DHS was at the Sutherland home of 57-year-old Dean Swanson, following a report of plants growing in a closet at the home. After arrival at the home, DHS requested law enforcement respond to the residence.

Court documents indicate that the arriving O’Brien County Deputy reported a strong smell of marijuana from outside. Authorities say five marijuana plants were discovered under a grow light in an upstairs closet. Authorities also allegedly discovered a quantity of marijuana and THC wax.

Swanson was arrested and charged with four separate Class D Felony crimes: A Controlled Substance Violation for allegedly unlawful manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana; 3rd Offense Possession of a Controlled Substance; and two counts of Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp.
