Three Departments Fight Rural Sioux Center Blaze

Sioux Center, Iowa — A cattle shed was damaged and some round bales were destroyed in a fire on Sunday, March 8, 2020, near Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, about 10:45 a.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a building fire near 370th Street & Goldfinch Avenue, a mile and a half north and two west of the McDonald’s in Sioux Center.

The chief says the building was a cattle shed with round bales in it. He says they broke the bales apart and applied water to the bales and the structure.

Van Holland says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Rock Valley and Hull fire departments.

He says a possible cause of the fire may have been related to a heater in the building.

Chief Van Holland reports that 10 to 15 bales were destroyed and the building was 20 percent destroyed.

He says the 45 firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
