Three Taken To Hospital After Accident Near George

George, Iowa — Three people were taken to a hospital after an accident on Monday near George.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, at about 3:45 on Monday, April 1st, 20-year-old Maximus Jones of Lake Park was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup southbound on Marsh Avenue at 230th Street. That’s a mile south and six miles east of George, or four miles west of Ashton on A46. They tell us 45-year-old Katrina Riemersma of Ashton was eastbound in a 2019 Chevy Trax.

According to the deputy, Jones failed to stop at the stop sign. Riemersma attempted to avoid the pickup before striking the passenger side. The pickup rolled over and ended up on its passenger side and the Trax ended up in a field.

In total, three occupants were taken to Sanford Sheldon for medical treatment via Lyon County Ambulance and George Emergency Medical Service.

The report says both vehicles appear to have been totaled in the accident.

Jones was cited on charges of Failure to Obey a Stop Sign and Failure to wear a Seat Belt.

The George Fire Department, George EMS, Lyon County Ambulance Crew and The Tow Co. assisted with the response to the accident.
