Traffic Stop Nets Arrest Of Two Hawarden Women

Hawarden, Iowa — A traffic stop late Wednesday night has led to the arrest a pair of Hawarden women, one on a felony charge.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says shortly before midnight Wednesday night one of their deputies made a traffic stop northeast of Hawarden. Officials say that, upon investigation, their deputy determined that the car’s driver, 45-year old Cheri Topete had a barred driver’s license, and the deputy reported suspecting that Topete was under the influence of a drug, and the deputy reportedly discovered illegal drugs.

Deputies say Topete was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Barred Driver’s License, and Operating a Motor Vehicle While intoxicated or drugged.

In addition, authorities say a passenger in Topete’s car, 49-year old Darlene Sullivan of Hawarden was charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by their canine, Neiko, and the Rock Valley Police Department Drug Recognitinon Expert, or DRE.
