Two Sheldon Residents Face Child Endangerment With Injury Charges

Sheldon, Iowa — Two people from Sheldon have been arrested on child endangerment causing bodily injury charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sheldon Police Department, 33-year-old Carmelo Burgos Berrocal and 28-year-old Guendy Salazar Arias, both of Sheldon are accused of abusing a minor child. They were arrested on Wednesday.

In his statements, the officer says that DHS was made aware of possible child abuse to a minor child who had multiple bruises and cuts to the face and arms that appear to have been caused by a belt. A search warrant was carried out at their home, and along with the belt and other items, marijuana was also found during the search.

Both face identical charges. The felony charge is child endangerment with bodily injury, a class D felony. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison. They also face misdemeanor possession of marijuana charges.

At last report, the defendants remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of twin $5000 bonds.
