Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon woman was injured early Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash that happened southeast of Sheldon on Nettle Avenue.
O’Brien County authorities say 44-year old Katherine Stevens of Sheldon was northbound in the 3500 mile of Nettle Avenue in a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. Deputies say Stevens admitted to them that she had looked down, and when she did so her car crossed into the southbound lane and entered the west ditch. Authorities say the car traveled 189 feet in the west ditch. They say Stevens then swerved and over-corrected, causing the car to come back onto Nettle Avenue for 63 feet, crossing both traffic lanes, and entering the east ditch, where it traveled for 26 feet before rolling onto its top.
Stevens was taken to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team for treatment of her injuries.
Stevens was reportedly ticketed for Failure to Maintain Control. Damage to her car was estimated at $10-thousand.
