Fire Causes Major Damage To Hawarden Area Home

Hawarden, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Thursday, October 19, 2023, near Hawarden.

According to Hawarden Fire Chief Duane Schiefen, at about 6:00 a.m., the Hawarden Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 48286 306th Street — a mile west, three and a third south, and a little over a mile and a half west of Hawarden.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke as they approached the scene. He says they used an internal attack to fight the fire.

Schiefen says some pets were lost in the blaze.

The fire department was assisted by the Alcester and Ireton fire departments.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.

Chief Schiefen reports that there was major damage to the house.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
