Fire Destroys About 60 Round Bales Near Inwood

Inwood, Iowa — Around 60 bales were destroyed in a fire on Monday, April 20, 2020, near Inwood.

According to Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek, about 3:00 p.m., the Inwood Fire Department was called to the report of several hay bales on fire near 1439 190th Street, five miles north and four west of Inwood.

The chief says the fire department saw 60 cornstalk and grass hay bales fully-involved in fire as they approached the scene. He says they contained the fire to the bales, spread them out to burn, and kept the fire out of the grass.

Van Beek says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted by the Larchwood Fire Department and the Inwood Rescue Squad.

He says the cause of the fire is officially undetermined.

Chief Van Beek reports that the damage was limited to the bales.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
