UPDATE: Rock Rapids, Iowa — A garage and its contents were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, in Rock Rapids.

According to Rock Rapids Fire Chief Ed Reck, about 5:00 p.m., the Rock Rapids Fire Department was called to the report of a car on fire inside a garage at 502 South Carroll Street in Rock Rapids. The home is a corner lot, and the garage faces South Fifth Avenue.

The chief says the fire department saw large flames coming from the garage door as they approached the scene. He says they used an exterior attack to fight the fire.

Reck says no injuries were reported. He says the George Fire Department is automatically called to structure fire calls in Rock Rapids, but he told them they could turn around when he knew what they were dealing with.

He says the fire seems to have started while the owner was working on a car in the garage.

Chief Reck reports that the garage and its contents, including two vehicles, tools, and a shop for the owner’s HVAC business were destroyed in the blaze.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
