Guilty Plea In Convenience Store Robbery

Spencer, Iowa — A Spencer woman who, along with her alleged male accomplice, had been charged in connection with the robbery of a Spencer convenience store, has changed her plea to guilty and been sentenced in Clay County District Court.

Authorities say Coty Wolthuis and Jason Archer, both of Spencer, were charged in connection with a Valentine’s Day, 2020 incident at one of the Casey’s stores in Spencer. Spencer police say an 8-month investigation led police to believe that Wolthuis, who was an employee of the store, and Archer, acted as a team to stage the robbery.

According to online court records, Wolthuis entered Guilty pleas earlier this week to one count of 2nd Degree Theft, a Class D Felony, along with one count of Filing a False Report of an Indictable Felony, a Serious Misdemeanor. A second count of 2nd Degree Theft and one count of Conspiracy were dismissed by the court.
