Pair Arrested For February Convenience Store Robbery

Spencer, Iowa — A Spencer couple have turned themselves in to authorities in connection with a robbery that occurred February 14th of this year at a Spencer convenience store.

Spencer Police Chief Mark Warburton says 31-year-old Coty Wolthuis and 40-year-old Jason Archer, both of Spencer, surrendered to authorities for a robbery that took place Valentine’s Day at one Spencer’s Casey’s stores.

Warburton says the arrests stem from a nearly 8-month investigation in which police allege Wolthuis, a current employee of the store, acted as a team with Archer to stage the robbery.

Wolthuis was charged with Theft 2nd Degree (Class D Felony), Conspiracy to Commit a Felony (Class C Felony), and False Reports (Serious Misdemeanor). Archer was charged with Theft 2nd Degree (Class D Felony), Burglary 3rd Degree (Class D Felony), and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony (Class D Felony), according to Chief Warburton.

Spencer Police was assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations.
