Rock Valley Man Arrested Following Investigation

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley man has been arrested on charges arising from the investigation into a traffic crash that happened Saturday, November 17th in Rock Valley.

Rock Valley Police Chief Monte Warburton tells KIWA that one of his officers discovered a vehicle that had struck a bridge in the area of 14th Street and 21st Avenue in Rock Valley early November 17th. Warburton said the vehicle had been abandoned, and was discovered sitting in the middle of the road after the crash.

Warburton says the officer’s initial investigation led to his speaking that morning with 25-year old Alex Jesse Rust of Rock Valley.

Following further investigation, on Wednesday of this week (November 21st), Warburton says officers arrested Rust on several charges in connection with the November 17th crash. The Chief says Rust is charged with: Driving Under Suspension; Driving While License Suspended; Failure to Prove Financial Responsibility (no insurance); Failure To Maintain Control; Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident; and Operation Without Ignition Interlock.

Warburton says the Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident stems from injuries to Rust that the investigating officer says he observed the night of the crash. The Chief says Rust was required to have an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he was driving as the result of an earlier OWI case.
