Stolen Vehicle Report Ends With Foot Pursuit, Felony Arrest

Le Mars, Iowa — A Le Mars woman has been arrested on multiple charges following the report of a stolen pickup Wednesday night.

Plymouth County authorities say they received a report late Wednesday night of the theft of a red Chevy pickup that had been stolen in Le Mars.  Less than 90 minutes after the theft was reported, authorities say a Plymouth County Deputy observed the pickup heading north on Highway 75, just north of Hinton.

Deputies say the truck entered the east ditch, coming to rest on the railroad embankment, just short of the tracks. The driver of the pickup, who authorities identify as 30-year-old Crystal Marie Finchum, attempted to flea on foot, but was apprehended a short distance away.

According to authorities, Finchum was placed under arrest for Theft in the 2nd Degree, for possession of the vehicle, and was transported to the Plymouth County Jail.

Deputies say a search warrant was issued and executed on the pickup. According to authorities, multiple items of interest were seized in connection to drug charges and possible stolen property.

Sheriff’s officials say that, in addition to 2nd Degree Theft, Finchum was charged with Driving While License Suspended, 2nd Offense OWI, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Hinton Police Department.
