Two People Taken To Hospital, Corvette Sustains $70K In Damages

Granite, Iowa — Two people were taken to a hospital as the result of an accident near the Big Sioux River by Granite on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, about 10 p.m. that night, 21-year-old Shayla Post of Sioux Center was driving a 2008 Mercury Mariner. They say 68-year-old Gregory Johnson of Sioux Falls was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Post and Johnson were both westbound on 140th Street or A18 when a deer entered the roadway. Johnson slowed down for the deer but the sheriff’s report says he was rear-ended by Post.

The Corvette went into the north ditch and came to a rest in a bean field. The Mercury went into the south ditch and came to a rest on the driver’s side at the bottom of the ditch. Johnson and his passenger were transported to Avera in Sioux Falls for possible injuries.

The Chevrolet received approximately $70,000 in damages and the Mercury received approximately $15,000 in damages.

The Lyon County Sherriff’s Office reports that Larchwood EMS, the Larchwood Fire Department, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad and Trackside Service and Repair of Alvord assisted them with the response to the accident.
