(KIWA Staff Photo)Orange City, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A Rock Valley man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to burglary, domestic abuse assault, and carrying a weapon while intoxicated.
Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says 25-year-old Angel Rene Martinez was sentenced Monday in Sioux County District Court.
The weapons charge stems from an incident in April, when Rock Valley Police responded to a report of a person pulling a firearm at a bar. Investigators say Martinez had been drinking and was in possession of a gun.
The burglary and domestic abuse charges came from an incident in June. Police say Martinez went to a victim’s home, entered the residence, and later approached the victim with a knife while a child was present.
As part of a plea agreement, Martinez was sentenced to a 12-year prison term for second-degree burglary and domestic abuse assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. The sentence was suspended, and he was placed on probation for up to three years, ordered to complete a domestic abuse program, and pay fines.
Martinez was also sentenced to 205 days in the Sioux County Jail for carrying a weapon while intoxicated. That sentence begins immediately.
