Two Taken To Hawarden Hospital After Accident

Ireton, Iowa — A Hawarden woman and a child passenger in her vehicle were taken to the hospital after an accident near Ireton on Thursday, December 21st, 2023.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s office reports that about 6:50 p.m., 65-year-old Kirk Barrett of Ida Grove was driving a 2017 Toyota Camry westbound on Highway 10, four miles northeast of Ireton. They tell us that 24-year-old Delia Armenta of Hawarden was driving a 2010 Chevrolet HHR westbound on 10 behind Barrett. Armenta apparently became distracted by a passenger in her vehicle and ended up striking the Barrett vehicle.

Armenta and a child-passenger were transported by Ireton Rescue to Hawarden Regional Healthcare for treatment of minor injuries.

The Chevrolet sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage. Damage to the Toyota was estimated at $2,500.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ireton Fire Department and Ireton Rescue.
