Sioux County, Rock Valley Get Emergency Pump

Sioux County EMA Emergency PumpSioux County, Iowa — Sioux County Emergency Management, along with the City of Rock Valley, have worked with the Department of Homeland Security to acquire a large pump that will aid in fighting floods in Sioux County, and northwest Iowa.

According to Sioux County officials, following the Rock Valley flood of 2014, a need was identified for a large pump to move flood water. The Iowa Department of Homeland Security Emergency Management Division secures money to stage emergency response resources throughout the state.

The City of Rock Valley and Sioux County Emergency Management were able to get a Godwin eight inch diesel powered pump, which was purchased for $49,718.  Officials say the pump’s maximum capacity is 3,522 gallons per minute.  The pump came equipped on a trailer along with suction and discharge hoses.

Sioux County officials say the pump will be stored and maintained in Rock Valley, and will be available to assist other communities in northwest Iowa during times of flooding.
