Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon businessman is offering a reward for information about a hit and run crash that destroyed several thousand dollars worth of merchandise, as well as a large sign, that was displayed outside his store.
For several years Roger Sterler, of R&J’s New & Used, has displayed a variety of his store’s merchandise in front of the store, which is located at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 7th Street in Sheldon. Sterler tells KIWA that when he arrived at the store around 7 am on Thursday, October 6th, he discovered that an unknown vehicle had driven off the surface of 2nd Avenue, crashing into his sign and merchandise display, with the sign and merchandise being heavily damaged, or destroyed. He says there is also damage to the concrete base of a streetlight located at the south edge of his building.
Sterler says the damage to his merchandise tallies into the thousands of dollars. He says the vehicle left tire tracks at the scene, and the Sheldon Police Department is investigating.
Sheldon Police Chief Lyle Bolkema says his officers have been able to determine from evidence at the scene that the suspect vehicle is a 1998, 1999, or 2000 model Dodge Durango SUV.
In an attempt to bring to justice the person who destroyed his merchandise, Sterler has offered a cash reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the damage.
