2023 KIWA Scholarship Winner Announced

Sheldon, Iowa — Each year, KIWA Radio presents one graduating senior from the four-county area of Lyon, Sioux, Osceola and O’Brien Counties a $1,500 scholarship to pursue a major in radio broadcasting, communication or journalism, musical education, and/or songwriting or music composition.

The 2023 KIWA Scholarship winner comes from MOC-Floyd Valley High School. Kaitlyn Bruinsma will be attending the University of South Dakota this fall, majoring in Music Education. She’s been involved in her church’s youth group, a Girl’s State representative, a member of the Le Mars Community Band, the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra and Tulip Festival Dutch Dancing, among other activities.

At MOC-Floyd Valley, Kaitlyn has been involved in choir, marching band, concert and symphonic band, Jazz Band, played violin in the string orchestra, been involved in the school musicals and plays, individual and group speech, girl’s wrestling, track & field, volleyball, and much more.

Kaitlyn says the KIWA Scholarship will be a great help to her in her pursuit of a Music Education degree.

Kaitlyn is the daughter of Jason and Jessica Bruinsma of Orange City.
