$24.5 Million Science Hall Dedicated At Northwestern

Orange City, Iowa — Northwestern College in Orange City dedicated its new science hall on Friday. College president Greg Christy says they had already raised more than the $24.5 million cost of the three-story, 61-thousand square foot building by the time they broke ground to start construction.

The building will be home to the college’s nursing program.

Christy says combining all those programs together is important.

Christy says the architecture of the building features several glass walls, allowing people to view the classrooms.

The naming gift for the Jack and Mary DeWitt Family Science Center was the largest single gift ever given to Northwestern — six million dollars. The greatest benefactor in Northwestern College’s history, Jack DeWitt died this past June at the age of 75. Many buildings on campus bear the DeWitt name. Jack’s father Marv gave the naming gift for the DeWitt Music hall, which, along with Christ Chapel was built during the 1980’s. Jack and Mary DeWitt also gave the lead gift for the DeWitt Learning Commons, which was dedicated in 2013 at Northwestern.
