80th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally WILL Be Held This August

Sturgis, South Dakota — Each August, Sturgis South Dakota is a mecca for motorcycle riders attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The Rally draws thousands of motorcycle riders and their bikes from around the globe, including a strong contingent from right here in northwest Iowa.

One thing that has been on the mind of all these bikers is – will the 2020 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic? Thus far, the City of Sturgis hasn’t officially announced whether or not they’ll support the 80th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

According to the website, sturgis.com, if the City of Sturgis votes to not partake in this year’s rally, it doesn’t mean there won’t be one. It means the city would not issue vendor permits within city limits, rent out space, make Main Street motorcycles only or provide other municipal services. However, according to the website, because the City of Sturgis doesn’t own the rally and the state of South Dakota has shown no inclination to tell people they can’t come, multiple venues, campgrounds and businesses are moving forward. These Black Hills venues and attractions will continue hosting the 80th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this August, regardless of whether the City of Sturgis votes to promote the rally within the city limits.

While the Rally will go on as scheduled, August 7th through 16th, organizers urge anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable attending due to the pandemic to simply stay home, stay safe and join them for the 81st Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August of 2021.
