Sheldon, Iowa — Last week we told you about the new Sheldon Fireworks Ordinance that went into effect this past Saturday, June 24th. With Independence Day right around the corner, we thought we’d take a deeper look into what the ordinance allows, and what it forbids.
We talked with City Manager Sean Hutchison, who says there are two periods each year when fireworks may be exploded in Sheldon. He tells us about the period that is currently under way.
In addition to the dates when fireworks are legal to explode in Sheldon, there are times of the day that are specified in the new ordinance, as well.
He says the new ordinance also specifies where you may legally shoot off your consumer-grade fireworks.
In addition, Hutchison says there are people who are specifically PROHIBITED from shooting off fireworks.
And, he says, the ordinance requires that fireworks be used in a responsible manner.
Hutchison says violations of the Sheldon Fireworks Ordinance are charged as a Simple Misdemeanor, with a prescribed fine of $250 for a first offense.
