Active Shooter Drill Helps Train Officers, Emergency Responders

Sibley, Iowa — Osceola County emergency responders and law officers are more ready to handle an active shooter scenario after a training exercise on Monday, February 19th.

Osceola County Emergency Management Director Dan Bechler tells us more about the training that took place at the Sibley-Ocheyedan High School in Sibley.

He says it was the first full-scale run-through of the new plan. He says they’ll take what they learned from this exercise and make any tweaks needed. He says they’ll also do more training as needed.

Bechler tells us it went as well as could be expected.

He says he wants to thank the volunteers who helped them out.

According to Bechler, the training was done on Presidents Day so that there would be no students in the school.
