Airport Commission Inspects New Hangar

hangar-1Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Airport Commission, along with representatives of McClure Engineering, inspected the new hangar at the Sheldon Regional Airport Tuesday morning to go over a punch list of last minute details that need to be completed before the hangar is ready for use.

Airport Commission Chairman Skip Tanner tells KIWA that the engineers think the hangar will be ready to be put into operation shortly after Thanksgiving.

The new hangar replaces the one destroyed by extremely high winds in June, 2015.  The new hangar has some upgrades that the old hangar lacked.  Tanner says he was most impressed with the hangar’s bigger bi-fold doors.

According to Sheldon City Clerk Angie Beckman, the total cost of the new hangar was $430,536.  Beckman says the City’s insurance paid to replace the old hangar, except for the policy’s $1-thousand deductible, and the cost of two upgrades which were added.  She says the total cost to the City will be $10,910.
