UPDATE (With Total Donation Numbers): All-American Blood Drive

Sheldon, Iowa — The 11th Annual All-American Blood Drive, sponsored by the Community Blood Bank, Sheldon Chamber & Development Corporation, and KIWA Radio, was held yesterday in downtown Sheldon.

Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken Versteeg says 38 people came out to try and donate blood yesterday, however some of them were unable to for a variety of reasons.

In all, Versteeg says the drive netted 33 pints of blood for use by Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.  According to Versteeg, those 33 points of blood can potentially save 99 lives in the Sheldon area, since each pint is separated into three blood products, and each of those blood products can save one person’s life.

Versteeg extended a big thank-you to all those who came out to donate at yesterday’s All-American Blood Drive.  He says this year’s numbers are a great improvement over last year.

If you have never given blood before, Versteeg says it’s an easy process, and the little pinch you feel will help save a life right here in Sheldon.
