Alton Fire Station Bond Issue Passes By A Landslide

Alton, Iowa — The citizens of Alton have decided “yes” was the right answer in regard to a bond election. In fact, it was almost unanimous.

According to unofficial results from the Sioux County Auditor’s office, the measure passed 335 votes to 11 votes. That’s 96.82 percent of voters voting yes.

According to Alton Fire Chief Quintin Van Es, the Alton Fire Station is in need of expansion. Part of the reason the measure passed so handily might be related to the fact that if all goes according to plan. Alton citizens’ taxes won’t be going up.

Van Es tells us the plan.

He says it will be paid through Local Option Sales Tax.

He tells us they don’t have an exact cost yet, but he says they hope to have it come in under the two million mark.
