Another Week, Another Scam

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon Police Chief Lyle Bolkema is warning of another scam being perpetrated on unsuspecting Sheldon residents.

This time the Chief says several Sheldon residents have received telephone calls from someone saying that their Social Security number is being investigated and/or that it has been used fraudulently. The caller then attempts to get the person to tell them personal information, including their social security number.

Bolkema says a similar scam has happened with people who receive phone calls that their Medicare card has been fraudulently used.

Bolkema stresses that THESE ARE ALL SCAMS. DO NOT TALK TO THESE PEOPLE OR GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. He says if you have questions about whether or not your identity has been compromised, get a free credit report from one of the credit reporting companies OR contact your local police department.
