Man Gets Five Years In Prison For OWI In Sanborn

Sanborn, Iowa — A Le Mars man has been sentenced after being picked up on a felony OWI charge in Sanborn in October and in Sheldon in March.

According to O’Brien County Jail officials, 49-year-old David Scott Vantuyl was arrested in October by the Sanborn Police Department. They report that Vantuyl was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Third or Subsequent Offense, which is a class D felony. Vantuyl also faced misdemeanor charges of Driving Under Suspension and Open Container in connection with that case.

Court records indicate that in the meantime, Vantuyl was picked up on another felony OWI charge in Sheldon. That charge was reduced to second-offense OWI as part of a plea agreement, and Vantuyl was sentenced to seven days in jail with credit for time served and an $1875 fine.

According to court records, Vantuyl was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of $3,125 on the Sanborn charge.

Iowa Department of Corrections records show that this is the third time Vantuyl has been in prison since 2000.
