April Wetter Than Normal; Temps Average

Sheldon, Iowa — If it seemed like a we had a dreary and wet April, you’re right. Farmers are also dealing with the rain keeping them from getting their crops in the field with a third of the month receiving some sort of precip.

According to the official precip total, Sheldon had 2.7 inches of precipitation for the month of April, nearly a quarter inch above the normal rainfall for the month.

April 2016 was also quite a bit wetter than normal, with 4.35 inches. That’s 1.89 inches more than normal.

Back in 2015 we had drier April with only 2.12 inches of precipitation in the month.

As far as temperatures go, the average normal high for Sheldon for April is 58 degrees and the average normal low is 35. We were exactly normal for the month for the high, while the low was just a bit higher at 36 degrees. Last year we averaged one degree higher on both the high and low temps.

Time will tell whether things will start to average out or if May will bring more rain. The forecast for the Sheldon area has the only chance of rain for the rest of the week being Tuesday night through Wednesday night, and the six-to-ten-day outlook indicates above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.
