Bloodmobile To Make Rock Valley Stop On Tuesday

Rock Valley, Iowa — In an effort to avoid the summer blood shortage, the Community Blood Bank and Hegg Health Center Avera will host a community blood drive.

The blood drive will be held on Tuesday, May 29 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hegg Health Center.

Community Blood Bank is hospital-operated as a shared resource of Avera and Sanford Health Systems, meaning when you donate on the bloodmobile the donation will go directly back to Hegg Health Center Avera to save local lives.

Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. says that the summer months are considered some of the most difficult when keeping up with the demand for blood products within our community. He says that there are many weeks where usage is outpacing collection by 40%. He says they hope to start the summer months strong with an ample blood supply and keep this momentum moving to avoid any summer blood shortages.

Ver Steeg says donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health the day of the donation.
