Boyden Fire Department Extinguishes Blaze

Boyden, Iowa — The Boyden Fire Department put out a fire on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

According to Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg, about 1:30 PM, the Boyden Fire Department was called to the report of a fire at the Boyden Tree Dump. According to Blake Snieder from the City of Boyden, fire is used to dispose of tree debris at the Boyden Tree Dump. He says the fire was set by the City. Snieder says he thinks sparks from the prescribed fire flew into a pile of logs that they were saving.

Chief Starkenburg says a farmer had called in the fire, saying it was getting too close to the fence and a manure pile. The chief says no injuries were reported.

Starkenburg reports that there was no damage to speak of.

He says fire crews were on scene for about a half hour.
