Burning Ban Issued For Sioux County

Orange City, Iowa — A burning ban has been enacted for Sioux County, according to Sioux County Emergency Manager Nate Huizenga.

The ban, requested by the fire departments in Sioux County, prohibits open burning in Sioux County, by the order of the State Fire Marshal. The fire marshal says open burning now constitutes a danger to life or property.

The burning ban will remain in effect until Huizenga notifies the State Fire Marshal that the risk no longer exists.

The Fire Marshal says that any violation of this proclamation order is a simple misdemeanor.

Often burning bans are enacted after fires in the county. But Huizenga says this time it’s more of a preventative measure.

The burning ban in Sioux County is the first in our area this year. There is only one other burning ban in effect in Iowa at this time, in Freemont County in the far southwest corner of the state.
