Central Lyon To Begin $250K-$400K Plumbing Project

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Some renovations are set to begin at the Central Lyon Middle School wing in Rock Rapids. And it will start with a plumbing rehabilitation project, which is projected to cost somewhere in the range of $250,000 to $400,000.

That’s from Central Lyon Superintendent Dave Ackerman. He says the 1968 building was built as an elementary and middle school. He says now that the middle school wing is split, with about half of it in the 1968 building, and half in the 1999 building. He explains the project.

Ackerman says that because the line runs through a bathroom in the fifth and sixth-grade hallway, they are required by the Americans with Disabilities Act to renovate those restrooms to make them handicapped-accessible.

According to Ackerman, the plumbing part of the project will start June 1st and needs to be complete by August 15th, with the construction portion getting until September 16th. He tells us school is scheduled to start on August 23rd.

Mr. Ackerman says they will use 1-cent sales tax to pay for the project, which is part of a bigger project in the 1968 building, which will also include some more sewer line replacement and renovation of more bathrooms, and locker room improvements. Those improvements will be done in the summer of 2020, and possibly 2021, if needed.
