Chamber: Get Merry Money Early On Monday

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon businesses are again offering shoppers a chance to buy “Merry Money” which can be used for making purchases at participating businesses until December 24th.

Michele Honkomp from the Sheldon Chamber says, as usual, Merry Money will be sold one day only. This year that’s Monday, November 7th. She says it is sold in $10 increments.

She tells us Sheldon merchants and the Sheldon Marketing Committee make Merry Money possible.

Honkomp says Merry Money will be available on Monday at the Community Services Center, where a table will be set up in the hallway, starting at 7:00 a.m.

Last year, since it was the tenth anniversary of Merry Money, it was decided to raise the available amount to $150,000. She says they’ll have just as much available this year.

She says that 41 Sheldon businesses have decided to take Merry Money this year. She says that’s most of the downtown businesses and some in other parts of town too.

Honkomp says that due to the way the program works, she advises spending Merry Money wisely.

And again, it does need to be spent by Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2016. She also reminds us that Merry Money can be purchased only with cash or a check, because they don’t take credit or debit cards.

Honkomp says that printing costs for Merry Money certificates, fliers and advertising are again being shared by the four Sheldon banks, and Honkomp said she wanted to thank the Sheldon media for providing in-kind advertising for Merry Money too.
