Northwest Iowa — A while back, we told you that there was some concern for northwest Iowa corn planted in a certain window in April. Now it appears that most of the corn has come out fine.
Paul Kassel, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Agronomist tells us that while there was some concern over what is called imbibitional chilling, where the corn seed takes on some very cold water just after it’s planted, there appears to be little evidence that that problem occurred.
He says for the most part, planting and the early growing stages appear to be going well. He says he’s not aware of any other weather problems that are causing farmers to re-plant or anything like that.
He says they’re encouraging farmers, if they’re done planting soybeans to check their cornfields.
