City Council To Meet K9 Balin During Wednesday’s Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets in regular session this Wednesday they’re scheduled to be introduced to the newest member of the Sheldon Police Department.

K9 Balin, along with his human partner, Officer Eric Meineke, recently completed their training in the twin cities and began patrolling Sheldon’s streets together last week. The Council will lead off their meeting Wednesday by being introduced to K9 Balin, whose full name is Balin Tartarus Nefarius, a name which was given to him by the breeder after his birth in the Czech Republic on December 7th, 2019.

In other action Wednesday, as part of the Council’s “Consent Agenda,” they’re expected to set the date and time for a public hearing on the potential financing of up to $1,000,000 for the purchase of a new ladder truck to replace the old truck that was heavily damaged in a collision with a tree limb earlier this year. They’re also expected to pass a resolution formally requesting federal funds from the American Rescue Plan, or ARP, the federal government’s latest pandemic relief fund.

During Wednesday’s meeting, the Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed ordinance covering livestock within City Limits and is expected to pass a resolution sending it to its first reading.

Public Works Director Todd Uhl will also be on hand to give the Council an update on water conservation efforts under the ongoing Voluntary Water Watch.

Wednesday’s regular meeting of the Sheldon City Council is set to be called to order at 4:30 pm in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center. You are welcome to attend, in person, or online via Zoom, by CLICKING HERE.
