City To Undertake Urban Renewal Project To Assist With Sale Of H.C. Lane Building.

Sheldon, Iowa — The H.C. Lane Building, which is located on the southwest corner of the 9th Street and 4th Avenue in downtown Sheldon, is once again in the news.

The structure, which is actually comprised of six buildings that share common walls, has fallen into disrepair over the past several years. Back in 2019, the City of Sheldon forced the building’s owner to make improvements to the structure to render it safe. The building has been for sale, but Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker says there have been some title complications that caused a previous attempted sale to fall through.

Kooiker says he suggested to the owner of the building that the City could help facilitate the correction of the title issue in hopes of avoiding the demolition of the structure.

The Sheldon City Council approved Kooiker’s proposal at their meeting earlier this week.
