Council Endorses CDBG Application For 321 9th Street Project

Sheldon, Iowa — During their regular meeting Wednesday afternoon, the Sheldon City Council cleared the way for the application for a Community Development Block Grant for the construction of a trio of new upstairs housing units in downtown Sheldon.

The owner of the property at 321 9th Street approached the City with a request to apply for the CDBG grant, since the City needs to be the applicant. The Council held a pair of public hearings on the issue at Wednesday’s meeting before adopting the Housing Needs Assessment, endorsing the application for the CDBG funds, along with other required elements.

In other action, the Council granted a request from the Sheldon Fire Department to post “No Parking” signs on both sides of 11th Street, fifty feet in each direction from the 5th Avenue intersection. The fire department explained that the heavy truck parking in that area makes it difficult for the fire department heavy apparatus to negotiate turns onto 11th Street, which is their primary route for calls to the south.

The Council also approved the hiring of Brooke Oldenkamp as Assistant General Manager of the Crossroads Pavilion Event Center, at a starting salary of $36,546.24 per year.
