Council To Decide On Meendering’s Hiring As Crossroads Pavilion Manager

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets this Wednesday February 20th, they will be asked to approve the Crossroads Pavilion Board’s request to hire Katricia Meendering as General Manager of the event center.  If the Council approves Meendering’s hiring for the position, she would have to resign her position as Mayor.

Krista Bousema is set to become Sheldon’s first female police officer when she takes the oath of office as a Reserve Police Officer. Bousema will be the second person to join the police force as a reserve officer, after Eric Meinecke took the oath of office for that position last month.

Other agenda items include a request from Maintainer for an additional driveway and reduced speed limit, the setting of the date and time of a public hearing for adoption of the budget for the coming fiscal year, and a discussion about the possibility of switching to At-Large Council Districts.  At the present time three of the City Council members are elected from their specific wards.  The other two members are elected at-large, meaning they are elected by all the voters in the city.  The change to an all At-Large council would have to be voted on in a special election which could be called for by a petition signed by 45 or more voters.

In other business, the Council will hear presentations from Sheldon EMA, SCAT, Fire Department, and Police Department with their projection of the cost of unfunded needs for the next fifteen years.  Those projections were requested by the council as they look toward the possibility of a gas and electric franchise to generate the funds to pay for the projected needs.
