Council To Hold Pair Of ‘Public Hearings’ During Wednesday Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — Ag Partners in Sheldon has an opportunity to sell some of their property located west of their Sheldon facility and east of Western Avenue. To make the sale possible they have asked the city to vacate a portion of the West 11th Street and Railroad Avenue right-of-way. The Sheldon City Council will hold a public hearing on the issue at their meeting this Wednesday (November 18th). The public hearing will be followed by a second public hearing in response to a request from the Zoning Administrator to vacate a portion of right-of-way west of the Ag Partners request and east of Western Avenue.

The Council agenda also calls for setting the date for three public hearings. The first of is for the Airport Farm Lease, the second is in response to a request from KIWA for an access easement, and the third is to authorize the advancement of costs for an urban renewal project at 104 North 3rd Avenue. This is the site of the former Rec Bowl.

In other business, the  council will hear the second reading of a zoning ordinance amendment on the fencing of swimming pools in the city. They’ll also hear the second reading of a zoning ordinance amendment on storage sheds, and the first reading of an ordinance amending provisions in the Code of Ordinances pertaining to floodplain management. And, there will be the annual update of the city’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan, the annual update of the Emergency Services fifteen-year Capital improvement plan and information on the Airport FFA Capital Improvement plan.
