Council To Hold Workshop On Ambulance Service To Archer Area At Regular Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — A workshop and discussion on ambulance service to the Archer area has been scheduled as the final item on the agenda when the Sheldon City Council meets this Wednesday, January 16th.

Areas to be addressed include a proposal from the City of Archer, direction to the Sheldon City Attorney and City Manager regarding a 28E agreement with Archer, and direction from the City Council on bidding to purchase Archer’s ambulance.  Representatives from Archer, Primghar and Sanborn have been invited to the workshop.

In other business, the Council will respond to a request from the Crossroads Pavilion board to pass a resolution to implement a 13 ½ cent ‘civic center’ tax levy which is allowed under State Law.  This would be used for maintenance and capital improvements at the facility.  This tax levy would not be subject to a public vote.  If the council votes to move forward with the proposal they would first need to provide ample opportunity for the public to receive more information, and opportunities for the public to voice their opinions and concerns.

The council will also discuss how to proceed with development of the new Crossroads North Business Park.  And, they will be asked to set a hearing on approval of a $650-thousand loan to fund the purchase of a fire truck and two police cars.

Wednesday’s Council meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
