Defendants In Lake Park Murder Case Seek Separate Trials

Lake Park, Iowa — The pair charged in connection with the murder of a Lake Park woman late last year have now asked to have separate trials.

According to court records, Justice Berntson and Allison Decker are charged with 1st Degree Murder in the December death of Angel Bastman, whose body was discovered in her Lake Park home on December 22nd.

The pair had been scheduled to be tried together, but recently made motions for severance, or in layman’s terms, they’ve asked the court to try them separately on the charges. The judge is expected to rule on the motions next month.

Court records indicate the pair were scheduled to go on trial later this month, but that will now be pushed back until after the judge issues a ruling on the motions for severance.

Meanwhile, the pair remain in custody in lieu of a $1,000,000 bond each.
