DNR: Retrieve Your Ice Shelters By Feb. 20

Northwest Iowa — With the frigid temperatures and the winter weather advisories — and even a blizzard warning not too far away from us — it doesn’t seem like spring is on the way. But it is. And the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding anglers to take care of their fish houses.

DNR officials tell us that all permanent ice shelters must be removed from all state-owned lands and waters within two weeks — by February 20th.

They are also encouraging ice shelter owners not to wait until the last minute to get their shelter off the ice. If your shelter falls through the ice, they tell us that you’re responsible for retrieving it from the bottom of the lake.
