Primghar, Iowa — Retired Sheldon optometrist Dr. Allen Jones made an appearance in O’Brien County District Court this morning to plead guilty to charges stemming from an incident in Sheldon late last year.
Jones pled guilty to a charge of Aggravated Assault in a case in which he had been accused of assaulting Dr. John Michaels, another Sheldon optometrist.
During this morning’s court session, Dr. Michaels told the court that Dr. Jones had exhibited a lack of self-control, and he felt that Jones was in need of anger management classes. Michaels said he was afraid for his life.
Judge Ann M. Gales sentenced Jones to a suspended 30-day jail sentence on the charge, along with a 1-year period of probation. She further ordered Dr. Jones to either attend Anger Management classes, or undergo a psychological evaluation. Judge Gales also issued a 5-year no-contact order against Dr. Jones.
A restitution hearing in the case will be held in about 45 days.
